Dr. Sheila M. Furey, M.D. is a board-certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist based in Richmond, Virginia, with over three decades of experience in both inpatient and outpatient care, as well as juvenile detention and residential treatment centers. She earned her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, completed a psychiatric residency and child/adolescent fellowship at Boston University Hospitals, and holds state licenses in Virginia (and previously New Jersey).
Dr. Furey is the founder of Train Your Brain MD, where she integrates innovative neuroplasticity-based cognitive exercises (via the Arrowsmith Program) and holistic approaches—including nutrition and toxin awareness—to support learners across ages with cognitive challenges. Partnering with educator Rita Kamler-Hester, she helps individuals strengthen core skills such as processing speed, memory, logical reasoning, and executive function.
Beyond mental health care, Dr. Furey is a vocal advocate for children’s well-being and parental rights. As co-founder of the Virginia Medical Freedom Alliance (VAMFA), she addresses pressing social concerns, including health freedom and early childhood issues like sexualization and transgender ideology in schools. She also participated in local political processes, including a run for the House of Delegates and engagement with public forums.

VAMFA’s mission is to restore and protect the unalienable individual right to medical freedom within the Commonwealth of Virginia by ensuring informed consent, bodily sovereignty, and the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship.
